The Official Gazette for Industrial Property Rights to be published in CD-ROM form

The official gazette for industrial property rights which has been published in the form of books since June 20, 1948 by the Korean Industrial Property Office (KIPO) will be published in the form of CD-ROM.
The commissioner of the KIPO reported that the official gazette began publication in CD-ROM form in May, 1998.
In the old-style official gazette book, there were some problems such as trouble in the search for technical information, an increase in publication expenses and custody expenses and so on.
However, using the official gazette in the CD-ROM form, the above problems have been solved easily.
The first CD-ROM official gazette was published by the KIPO based on the international standard SGML to provide various functions which are required to search for information, such as a keyword search and an inquiry into bibliographic items.
Accordingly, it is expected that the efficiency of accessing the information for the industrial property rights will be raised for those in enterprise, those at research institutes, the scientific world and those in the invention field.

Priority in the installation of Internet Addresses to be given to the Owners of Trademark Rights

The owner of trademark rights, independently a person or an enterprise, will be able to preferentially use the internet domain name.
In the installation of the internet website, until now it has been possible for only one domain name to be assigned to one enterprise.
However, from now on, the owners of trademark rights will be able to gain additionally the domain names every trademark right which the owner of trademark right possesses.
Moreover, a person who does not own trademark rights can not register a domain name using the trademark rights of another person.
Therefore, it is expected that the previous infractions and confusion in electronic commerce transactions will decrease considerably.

Urgency of Systematization in the Transfer of Technical Know-How

"The Center for the Transfer of Technical Know-How" has been established in order to effectively transfer various kinds of technical know-how to the industrial world.
This has been developed by the government investment research organization in Taed k Science Town.
However, there have been plural technique-transferring organizations, so that the consumers of the technical know-how are in confusion.
A Center for the Transfer of Technical Know-How has been established in each research institute, moreover, two organizations which are wholly responsible to the technique transfer of all research institutes at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) have been established and been managed, separately from the former.
These two organizations are similar to each other in their contents of business, and the working of these two organizations is also overlapping with that of the Center for the Transfer of Technical Know-How.
Therefore, the dominant opinion is that a systematization of the procedures for the efficient transfer of technical know-how is urgently needed.

20 Companies were Found to have Infringed Software Copyrights

The software property protection committee(SPC) under the umbrella of the Korea Software Industry Association have announced that they have exposed 20 companies under suspicion of illegal duplication and the selling of software.
